James Hutchens, Guitarist

Hi, I’m James Hutchens and my passion is music. I have been playing guitar for over 40 years and it has brought be so much joy. The guitar is so accessible to learn music and so much popular music for the last 60 years has been creating and performed on the guitar.

When I first took my own guitar lessons at 13 year old, I learned from a folk guitar player and studied, finger style guitar, americana songs done by Arlo Guthrie, Donovan etc. At the same time I was secretly obsessed with Blues guitar, Jimi Hendrix, Al Di Meola, David Gilmour, etc. With each folk lesson, I was constantly working on apply the basic folk guitar concepts to modern and classic rock songs and techniques. This helped me begin to theorize about how to connect these two genres.
